Hahn was born in Northampton, PA, and gained his B.S. in Architecture from Pennsylvania State University in 1932 and undertook graduate work at New York University (1946). From 1935 to 1938 he worked for Hunter & Caldwell in Altoona, PA, and then became resident engineer for the State of Pennsylvania ((1938-1940). After his stint with the State authority, he moved to Baltimore, MD, and employment with the Bethlehem Steel Co. (1941-1945).
