Description: This is an extremely rare antique table medal/jetton/token issued by Imperial Russia in 1763. It was issued to commemorate the Decree on September 1, 1763 by Catherine the Great (Catherine II). The Decree proclaimed the establishment of the First Orphanage in Imperial Russia (The House). According to the Rules infants were required to be accepted ''without asking the person bringing them who they were and whose baby they have brought, but only asking if they knew whether the baby had been baptized and what their name was''. The medal is made out of heavy solid bronze. Diameter 51.2mm, thickness 4.2mm; weight 55.5G. Medalist Timofey Ivanov; his name is on the bottom of the medal (see picture).
