Description: 🦚 American Red + Blue Jacquard Coverlet, early to mid 19th century 🦚 Floral + Peafowl border; Signed I.A. Schnider, (Johann Adam Schneider) - Adam’s Township, Washington, Ohio Good Condition; some fraying on edge 81x67 Johann Adam Schneider immigrated to the United States in 1845 as a master weaver. He married his first two wives in Germany. His second wife was extremely depressed over her son's death in Germany and tried to commit suicide. His third wife did not get along with his surviving son and the marriage soon turned bitter. He gave a great deal of his money to relatives to prevent his wife from inheriting it. Family legend also tells of his peddling his coverlets across the river--probably the Ohio River but maybe the smaller Muskingum River, on which Lowell sits. He received $12 to $14 per coverlet, which was a very high price at that time. #jacquard #coverlet #jacquardcoverlet #iaschneider #adamstownship #adamstownshipwashington #washingtonohio #americanaforsale
