Antique Hand Forged Blacksmith Tongs

Description: Hi neighbor , This set of tongs is truly an antique hand forged tool made by a blacksmith for use in his own trade . This is an early piece , there is no makers mark , no company name , which is one reason I think this is a blacksmith hand forged tool . Notice the length of each handle as they are of different lengths , one being 15 inches, the other is 13 1/2 inches . The jaws are also different , one side being sharper , the other one blunt . The irregularities of this tool is consistent with hand forged tools , not uniform in shape as in the newer machined production tools . Also check the appearance of the stock of the material used in making these tongs as it has a very rough surface , not a smooth milled surface as would be the case with newer production made tools . I can’t say for sure but compared to other blacksmith forged tools I have , I would feel safe in saying these tongs are from the late 1800’s . Check the last 3 pics for some information on dating antique metal tools . Either way , this is a unique piece of early American history and was probably used to make many useful items for ranchers and farmers on the American Frontier .
