Description: Antique Italian Heraldic Medici Family Crest & Coat Of Arms on Leather The coat Of Arms is hand painted on embossed leather with patterns. The fill is painted with hundreds of short horizontal strokes. The Crest is the House of Medici with 5 red balls and one ball with 3 lilys. The coat of arms around the crest looks similar to the Medici Family title, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. The frame is wood veneer with gold foil on the back. The gold foil on the back was removed to examine the leather. The leather has hole punches in the top and bottom and stitching along the sides. It may have been tied with the top and bottom and later stitched. The leather was likely the cover of a Medici book register though it may have been on a large campaign desk or travel chest. It could have been used in more than one capacity at different points in time. The size of the frame is 17 inch wide x 13 inch high. (43cm x 35cm) The leather is slightly smaller.
