Beautiful Late 18th - Early 19th Century Chinese Embroidered Silk Panel.

Description: Very Fine Chinese Embroidered Panel Beautiful hand embroidery very skilfully executed by an accomplished, professional handusing twisted silk threads on a patterned woven silk damask background,adding extra depth and richness to the design. Depicting a stylized diagonal vase, the image is a riot of exotic flowers, blossoms,leaves, ribbons and strange rather charming bat-like insects. All accomplished in a limited colour palette that takes its cue from the soft, honey yellowof the damask background - mellow, old golds and creams with single shade of green and two of blue employed as accent colours. A subtle sparkle has been added by the judicious use gold-wrappedsilk cords to outline some of the flowers. A number of stitch styles have been utilized. Mainly satin stitch - a lively sheen and glow has been achieved by varying the direction of the threads. Couched cord and forbidden stitch are also evident.The vase has been embroidered with a version of diamond-framed forbidden stitch I have never seen before. The fineness of stitch and restrained use of colour suggests 18th to early 19th century date - Jiaqing period. The design is contained within its rectangular frame.This is not a fragment of a larger textile. No holes, tears or fading. There are a couple of tiny wax drips in the topleft-hand corner, only visible on very close inspection. Presented in an antique ebonized frame with a Victorian Kensington framers labelstill present on the back panel. The embroidery has been re-glazed with low-reflective museum glass which filters U.V. and should mitigate any light damage. A fine addition to any collection.
