Description: Chinese Export Famille rose porcelain soup tureen and underplate. Qianlong Period, decorated with the figure of a mahout astride an elephant and flower sprays with gold rim. This style of dinner ware, the Mahout riding an Elephant, would have been collected to grace the tables of wealthy South East Asian Indian families. The theme of this table porcelain ware indicates that it was probably made for the Indian or Colonial India market where the East India Company, or Dutch East India Company, trading ships would have brought their orders from Canton, China. Note: there are several of my listings with Indian Mahout Riding Elephant motifs, including chargers, platters, and dinner ware. If you are interested in obtain two or three of the listings contents, please contact me for a better price. Also note, these tureens have been going for $1800, and $3400 depending on condition (see 1st Dibs). The tureen without lid measures 13 inches handle to handle, and 7 inches in height. With the tureen cover the whole tureen is 10 inches high.
