Description: Early Estwing 16 Oz Hammer Stacked Leather Handle PAT. RE. 16820 I did some research on these hammers. The patent application date is 7/26/1926. The patent was granted 4/2/1929. I don't know if this hammer was made in 1926 but I think this is definitely an early made hammer. This is the only hammer listed with a patent number stamped on the handle butt plate that I could find. So, I am assuming this is an early made Estwing hammer. This had some surface rust so I used a wheel wheel to remove it. I treated the handle with coconut oil which is listed as a substitute for Neatsfoot oil. I guess I could say this is a refurbished Estwing hammer.
