Description: Pearlware Pepper Pot Caster Shaker Simple elegant lines from around 1800. Probably made in Staffordshire or Yorkshire of glazed earthenware or what is referred to as pearlware. The shaker features a slightly tapered cone shape pierced top with swirl painted to top, bulbous body with a blue painted feathered band and blue band around base. Really stunning! . Unmarked. Approx 4.5"H X 3" W. This piece is considered pearlware vs creamware. Pearlware has a blue tinge to the glaze cause by the use of cobalt which was considered an improvement at the time. Creamware precedes Pearlware by a few years. Provenance: Prominent Private Collection Condition: Roughness to top rim, three chips to base, otherwise minor imperfections to be expected.
