Description: REALLY BEAUTIFUL AND RARE Early 1896 Antique BIRDSEYE MAPLE Wood Victorian Stereo "Stereoptican" Viewer, PATENT MARKED, 1896 DESCRIPTION: One of the most beautiful, AND CERTAINLY RAREST and nicest made/finished wooden 1896 antique Victorian stereo viewer, from my personal collection. Also known as a "stereoptican" device. ONE OF THE RAREST ONES YOU WILL FIND AS IT IS MADE TOTALLY OF BEAUTIFUL BIRDSEYE MAPLE. ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND SCARCEST WOODS AVAILABLE. Made of nicely finished birdseye. It is an interesting device that holds stereo view cards, designed to provide a 3-dimensional photo viewing effect. It enables sliding the card holder back and forth as needed to enable precise focus according to each individual person's preference. Still has both of the metal clips on the sides to hold each card in place. It also is fitted with 2 thick tilted magnification lenses to enlarge and focus the detail of the stereo photos and a hood" to facilitate clear vision, as shown. Has a fancy turned folding wooden handle on the bottom to hold the device while viewing (these are often broken or missing).Also very unusual in that IT HAS THE PATENT INFORMATION STAMPED ON THE TOP, "Patented Oct. 15, 1896", as shown. These devices are very unusual and very Victorian in style. These units were extremely popular during the late 1800s - early 1900s. Scans show all the details. THIS IS A VERY NICE, WELL MADE, COMPLETE, AND FUNCTIONAL UNIT! It is perfect as an antique decorator, or again, IT CAN STILL BE USED, IN NICE CONDITION OVERALL. The wood is in excellent condition, and again, it has particularly beautiful finish due to the VERY BEAUTIFUL AND SCARCE WOOD!! THIS IS A PARTICULARLY NICE EXAMPLE OF AN ANTIQUE STEREOPTICAN.
