Description: Red Calcite Cluster w/Hematite, Santa Eulalia, Mexico, 5 x 3 cm Description: · A large miniature size specimen of Red Calcite cluster with rich Hematite inclusions · It is an All-Calcite specimen with no matrix; the base is filled with colorless calcite and the top is covered with different forms of red calcites – scalenohedral, modified scalenohedral as well as prismatic pentagonal and rhombohedral forms of calcite shapes · The deep red color is caused by the rich inclusions of disseminated hematite, hence they appear translucent instead of transparent and colorless · Source: Santa Eulalia, Mexico · Size: Overall specimen approximately 5 x 3 cm; largest prominent individual scalenohedral calcite measures approximately 1.2 cm; the other prismatic pentagonal calcite shapes are over 2 cm in size · Condition: Natural surface wear over time but overall, in good condition; on display in cabinet only. A gorgeous large miniature specimen of Red Calcite, a cluster filled with rich inclusions of hematite, giving it the stunning deep red color! This featured specimen is all calcite with no matrix and the calcites are all naturally colorless, beautifully exposed on the back and at the base, displaying the formation habits and the trigonal system of the Calcites, with its natural smooth shiny surface, displaying a rainbow hue in one of the pictures. Additionally, this featured specimen also displays several formation habits – taking different forms and shapes - scalenohedral, modified scalenohedral as well as prismatic pentagonal and rhombohedral. All these different forms are showcased at the top of the specimen, with their rich hematite inclusions. When held under light, they truly sparkle. The rich hematite inclusions add to the beauty of these calcites with its reddish brown to deep red color, which makes the whole specimen even more stunning. There is some natural surface wear over time and a tiny nick at the tip of one of the scalenohedral calcite point but it is barely noticeable. This is truly an amazing specimen, very captivating, unique and one of a kind, such wonderful qualities in terms of form, shape, size, color, and structure, certainly worthy as a nice addition to any mineral collection! This fine and unique specimen can be yours for $24 plus shipping and handling. Specimen Background information: Calcite is derived from the German Calcit, a term coined in the 19th century from the Latin word for lime, calx (genitive calcis) with the suffix -ite used to name minerals. Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most stable polymorph of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), sometimes with impurities of iron, magnesium, or manganese, and occasionally zinc and cobalt. They occur in a great variety of shapes and colors, and often constitute a major portion of many of the earth's rocks. Colors range from colorless to white, yellow, brown, orange, pink, red, purple, blue, green, gray, black or even multicolored. The calcite crystals can be transparent to opaque. Hematite is composed of iron oxide and they occur in colors of black, gray to silver gray, even brown to reddish brown and red. Their formation habits could vary from thin plates, as well as bundles of small micaceous plates to massive, botryoidal, reniform, stalactitic and radiating. Scalenohedral and rhombohedral crystals occur, as well as tabular and groups of tabular crystals. The Hematite inclusions in this featured specimen is the cause of the reddish brown to deep red color of the Calcites. Note: **All specimens are taken in natural and regular lighting only. This featured specimen looks better in person in order to appreciate its unique form, shape and crystal formation habits, including the rich color of the Hematite inclusions and the glassy nature of the crystals. Color may be a little different due to the color calibration of each individual monitor or light levels. **As with all genuine mineral specimens, there may be natural occurring inclusions, formations, impressions, cleavages, incomplete growths, imperfections, including abrasions along the perimeters at the base as it has been separated from the core cluster, becoming an independent cluster of its own. We have posted close up pictures at all angles for your viewing pleasure in this listing, to show you the fine details, color, form, shape, structure and overall beauty of this fine specimen. **We will only ship to the 48 contiguous U.S. states (No International). **All orders ship within 3-5 business days after receiving cleared payment.
