This auction is for a rare and vintage Washington Redskins NFL collectible. I have not seen ANY others of these on eBay at any price, so jump on this one! (Someone once had a T-shirt up for bids that had the same newspaper front-page image on it, but not this deluxe sweatshirt version.) In case anyone is searching for collectibles using the Washington Commanders name, and has no sense of history, this is what the team was called before changing its name to that. (Duh.) These were available only by mail order from The Washington Post newspaper, right after the Skins won the Super Bowl in 1983. I am the first and only owner. I doubt that I wore this more than once or twice, and I never would have worn it without a shirt underneath. (What am I, a barbarian?) I doubt it ever was washed, because there appears to be no fading whatsoever. That means this is in as close to brand-new condition as you're ever likely to see, unless you locate a time machine and go back to the glory days of the '80s. (If only we could...) The only tiny flaws are some hard-to-see minor marks on the sleeves that no other seller in his right mind would bother mentioning, probably just discolorations from the dying process when it was made (see photos). There is some "pilling" on the cuffs, also not a big deal. (Also see photos.) The nice silkscreened image (not a cheapo plastic transfer) is the paper's front page for January 31, 1983, in surprisingly sharp detail. The tiny text of the stories is hard to read, but all of the headlines are nice and clear ("Redskins, Riggins Hog It All, 27-17," "Record Runs Bring Super Bowl Crown" -- and even "Weinberger, at Midterm, Gets Mixed Report Card," if you're a big Caspar Weinberger fan.) The tag says this is size Large, 42-44, manufactured by HealthKnit of 50% cotton and 50% Kodel Polyester. Measures 21 inches from underarm to underarm, 33 inches from the neckline to the cuff, 26 inches from neckline to hem at bottom of shirt. The silkscreened image measures 9 x 16 inches. Print is red, shirt color is gold, as in the Redskins team colors. This is the one-and-only copy I have of this style, so when it is gone, it's gone! You'll love it!
