To my bidders: For years I have done business on eBay using the name: gpstorageco*. The items I will be selling from this point on are being sold from my estate and from the estates of friends and relatives. This WWII US M1 Garand or US M1903 Springfield Bayonet belonged to a friend of mine who recently passed away. He set aside vintage military items over the years. This blade was on display with an early WWII M1 Garand Rifle. It was directly purchased from a US Army Vet years ago. This particular bayonet was manufactured by Utica Cutlery in 1942 during WWII. It was mated with an issue US Ordnance marked scabbard during manufacture. These early WWII US bayonets were produced with 16 inch blades and are often difficult to find as most US M1905/42 bayonets had their blades shortened to 10 inches during the war. Blade ricasso has the maker UC, US & the ordnance bomb mark and the date (1942) to one side (see photos). The other side has a light crossed cannons cartouche marking (see photos). Blade shows average use/wear and retains 75% of a thinning light gray parkerized finish (see photos). The blade appears sharpened long ago and still has a relatively sharp edge now. There are a few very small nicks to the cutting edge that are hard to see (see photos). Pommel, crossguard & backstrap have most all of the finish remaining overall but it has browned (see photos). The grips are the WWII black plastic type, fit well and are excellent (see photos). Spring loaded release button is present above the crossguard and works properly. The scabbard is very clean overall - no edge cracks, losses or worn areas. Most all (98%) of the original paint remains to the body (see photos). Top fitting is very clean overall, is marked US and has the utility belt hook to the reverse (see photos). It has nicely toned and matches the finish toning of the crossguard perfectly (see photos). These long bladed and sometimes re-worked US M1905 bayonets saw use early in WWII prior to the issue of the short 10 inch bladed ones that began being manufactured in 1943. This bayonet shows average use/wear makes an excellent presentation and is guaranteed to be an original period piece as described. Great opportunity to complete a display with a US M1905/42 bayonet that has an original 16 inch blade. Really a super clean piece overall. Utica Cutlery marked bayonets are slightly harder to find especially in the 16 inch length.
